Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was on July 17, 2009. It is directed by David Yates with appearance from actress Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. This, like many other scenes from Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliff) is a true representation of how frivolous the human imagination can become. Time has passed since the first release of Harry Potter and the characters have matured in a sense, but the story line is nothing more than a script pumped with words to get a show on the road.
It will be Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts and much expectation and excitement is in the year. As the teenagers have grown over the years, the script makes an attempt to accompany such development with crushes here and there. Romance can be felt in the air with Harry falling for Ginny Weasley, but she already has a relationship with Harry’s classmate, Dean Thomas. Harry, however, is not the only one that cupid has managed to shoot with an arrow- Ron will be dating Lavemder Brown, a fun loving girl.
With private lessons from Professor Dumbledore and the mysterious Potions book that Harry found, which originally belonged to the Half-Blood Prince, Harry will embark on yet another ‘ magical adventure’ to improve his magic and uncover the dirty secrets of Voldemort’s past. All of this is done with the intention to find the smallest of detail that could eventually compromise this villain and defeat him in the process. 
As most villains honor themselves with someone to do the dirty work, Harry will experience great frustration from Draco Malfoy’s antics as he goes about to do the will of Voldemort. From a small hush in the horizon to a blatant appearance, Verdemont will slowly rise in power offering much resistance to the young magician and his group of friends.
Most of Harry Potter’s scenes take place in a classroom. After quite a bit of releases it is time to get out of the classroom and face the big world. It will be more enthusiastic to watch Harry’s Graduation Day or even Harry In The Big World, than a see the same script being pulverized and molded into the same material, only rephrased with a little special effects here and there.
For an adult, Harry Potter does not offer much action to keep one pinned to his seat and begging to see more. It is more of a scratch on the surface of movie making that has somehow managed to get enough viewers in its magic hat. The only people that will benefit from seeing yet another dull script from Harry Potter are children that are enthused about the world of magic. The scenes will be yet another sorry cry of originality that leaves one exclamation in the air, O.K. so what’s the big deal!
There comes a time to just throw in the towel and call it a day. The first moment that Harry Potter lived when it was first released, was one of magic and awe, but if the directors rinse this script anymore, then it is bound to come out with a bit of holes!
Halloween isn’t just for kids, adults love to dress up too. The Hangover was directed by the same director who put out the recent Starsky and Hutch film, Road Trip and the classic Will Ferrell movie Old School. A combination road trip/buddy movie The Hangover has enough action and comedy to delight fans and make them laugh through the whole movie. At the box office The Hangover pulled in a respectable amount of money and beat The Land of the Lost to come in first for the weekend of its debut.
The Hangover centers on a group of friends who are traveling to Vegas for a bachelor party. Doug Billings, the main character, is about to get married so his friends Phil Wenneck and Stu Price along with his soon to be brother in law Alan Garner head to Vegas to have one last wild night out before the wedding. All of the other men are involved in relationships, Stu is involved in a particularly unhappy one and looks at the trip as a chance to break away and have some fun. The group arrives in Las Vegas without incident and check into their rented suite at the famous Ceasar’s Palace. With a toast they get ready to go party the night away.
They wake up the next morning with no memory of the night before. When they wake up the suite that they were staying is in wrecked. They find a baby in the closet, and a tiger in the bathroom. Stu has somehow lost a tooth, and Doug is missing. As the guys try to piece together what happened they find clues like Stu’s tooth in Alan’s pocket and a receipt from an ATM for $800.They also find a hospital bracelet. When they go to the hospital they find out the doctor found traces of the “date rape” drug Rufalin in their blood. Stu confesses that he dosed their champagne the night before with a drug he thought was Ecstasy that he had brought with him. The drug turned out to not be Ecstasy but instead to be Rufalin. They follow the clues and discover that during the course of the night they stole the tiger from Mike Tyson, who makes a cameo appearance as himself. Stu got married to an escort named Jade, who is the mother of the baby that they found in their suite. They also find out that they owe a gambler $80,000 and that the gambler has kidnapped Doug and is holding him until he gets the $80,000. Through the course of trying to save Doug the men realize that the gamble is actually holding a different Doug, the drug dealer who sold Stu the Rufalin. Eventually they remember that they locked Doug, the groom, on the roof the night before. After they let him in and get him to his wedding with very little time to spare they find a camera with pictures documenting their night’s activities. They look at the pictures and then destroy the pictures.

All your children’s favorite Ice Age characters are back in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Dinosaur costumes are always popular with kids, and now your kids can dress up as their favorite Ice Age characters from the first two films and some new dinosaur characters from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs too.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is an animated film that was created using state of the art 3D technology. The film opens with Ellie and Manny expecting a baby mammoth. Manny is busily preparing a home for his growing family and is obsessed with making sure everything is just right. Diego has left the herd because has started to doubt his hunting abilities and wonders if he’s losing his predatory nature. Sid decides that he wants a baby like Manny and Ellie so he adopts three eggs that he finds which seem to be abandoned. However the morning after Sid adopts them the eggs hatch revealing three baby Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaurs. The baby dinosaurs are energetic and scare off all the other babies in the area with their rough play. Just when Sid is thinking that he is in over his head the mother Tyrannosaurus appears to reclaim her babies. She take Sid and the three babies and runs off with Diego tracking her. Manny, Ellie, Crash, Eddie and Diego set off to go rescue Sid. They go through an ice tunnel and discover a rainforest jungle where there are dinosaurs that everyone believed to be extinct.
The group is threatened by an Ankylosaurus that Diego can’t seem to stop, and the group appears to be in trouble until a new character, Buck, appears. Buck is a rakish weasel with one eye who is intent on tracking down Rudy, a white carnivorous dinosaur called a Baryonyx, who took his eye. Buck saves the group and joins them to help in the quest to get Sid back because he has been living in the jungle for awhile and knows it very well. Sid, meanwhile, has been charming the mother dinosaur with his care for her children. He is soon accepted by her and taken in as part of the family. The next day Rudy attacks the little family and Sid is thrown into a perilous fall over Lava Falls. As Sid is lying suspended over Lava Falls Ellie goes into labor not far from the falls. Manny goes back to help Ellie, Diego take up a position as a lookout for Ellie and Manny, and Buck takes Crash and Eddie up the falls to rescue Sid.
Manny and Ellie have a healthy baby girl that they name Peaches. Sid is rescued, and the group prepares to return to their glacial world. But on their way back Rudy attacks the group. The mother Tyrannosaurus appears and knocks Rudy off a cliff, although an ominous growl says that Rudy is not gone for gone. Manny, Ellie and Peaches return home with Sid, Crash and Eddie. Buck decides to continue looking for Rudy, and Diego decides to stay with the pack after all.
The characters from the TV show True Blood are sure to be some of the most popular Halloween costumes this year. True Blood is an HBO TV series that was created and is mostly written by Alan Ball. Alan Ball is most famous for his TV show Six Feet Under which chronicled the life and family relationships of the Fischer family and their family owned mortuary. Six Feet Under was wildly popular with fans and won a lot of critical acclaim for its brilliant writing and sharp cinematography. 
True Blood has shown to have the same grit, wit, humor, insight and edgy darkness that Six Feet Under had. True Blood has developed a loyal cult of followers who are hooked on the show. The unique characters on this Southern Gothic steeped vampire show are ideal for Halloween costumes.
The show is based on a series of books called the The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The show is built around a young telepathic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse, who works in a bar called Merlotte’s in the small town of Bon Temps Louisiana. In the True Blood world vampires and humans live side by side because of the creation of a synthetic blood substitute that the vampires use to survive instead of human blood. Some humans aren’t exactly comfortable with this arrangement but they tolerate it as long as the vampires and other creatures of the night don’t cause a lot of trouble. Sookie’s boss at the bar is Sam Merlotte, a shape shifter. Sam is protective of Sookie and often changes form into that of a big black dog and watches over her. Jason Stackhouse, Sookie’s brother, eventually joins an anti-vampire church and begins flirting with religious zealotry and starts to develop a deep hatred of vampires. Bill Compton is Sookie’s love interest, a vampire who has remarkable compassion for humans. Bill was turned into a vampire during the Civil War Era but has never lost his love and empathy for humans. Originally Sookie is drawn to him because she cannot read his thoughts the way that she can read other people’s thoughts. Eric Northman, another vampire, is interested in Sookie. Eric is the sheriff of one of the five local vampire precincts and is known for his vehement punishment of any crimes against vampires.
Other important human and vampire characters in Bon Temps include Jessica Hamby who is a teenager that was turned into a vampire by Bill Compton at the end of season 1 of the show. Bill was forced to turn Jessica after he killed a vampire who threatened Sookie. Sheriff Bud Dearborne, a human, is prejudiced against vampires and was very good friends with Sookie’s parents so he takes a special interest in her and her brother Jason and is not happy about Sookie’s relationship with Bill Compton. Another human, Tara Thornton, is Sookie’s best friend and an important part of the story.
Like Six Feet Under True Blood has gathered viewers from many different social groups. The quirky, edgy characters and Southern Gothic roots of the stories appeal to old and young alike.

Predator is cult classic and a great movie to draw from when it comes to fun Halloween costumes. The original Predator movie spawned a few sequels starring the Predator, a lizard like alien life form. The Predator is a great Halloween costume that will help put anyone into the Halloween mood. The original movie starred future politicians Arnold Schwarzenegger who went on to be the governor of California in addition to an action movie legend and pro-wrestler Jesse Ventura who ended up serving as the governor of Minnesota. The movie came out in 1987 and was panned by critics for its lack of a storyline and the absurd premise. The bad reviews didn’t stop fans from seeing it, and they loved the special effects and the grisly fighting scenes and Predator become a horror and action film cult classic.
In the beginning of the film viewers see a spaceship approaching the Earth, and then there is an abrupt cut to the Guatemala coast. Viewers then meet Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer who is the head of a military task force group that has been sent into Guatemala to rescue a member of the presidential cabinet who has been kidnapped and is being held in the rainforest of Guatemala by guerilla fighters opposed to the sitting government. Traveling with Dutch to help him are some of his oldest military friends like George Dillon, a CIA agent and Blain Cooper.
When the team is dropped by helicopter into the rainforest they find the remains of a crashed military helicopter and the skinned bodies of several Special Forces soldiers. The task force finds that strange but continues on with their mission. The team quickly overcomes the guerilla force, killing them all, and takes prisoner a woman who had been held by the guerillas, Anna. With Anna and the cabinet minister in tow they start out to get to the rendezvous point where they will be picked up by the military. At that point the viewers see the group being scanned by a thermal imager, which is the Predator. The Predator begins to hunt them, skinning anyone it kills and taking trophies. At that point the bodies that were found when the team first dropped into the area make sense and they realize that the creature has been hunting them and others in the area all along.
One by one the members of the task force drop, until only Dutch Shaefer and Anna are left. Realizing that the creature won’t attack someone that isn’t armed Dutch sends Anna to the rendezvous point to get help. In one of the most famous fight scenes of the movie Dutch and the creature face off and Dutch, badly hurt, accidentally falls in deep mud. When the creature can’t seem to find him he realizes that the creature is following his body’s heat signature and with that signature dampened by the cold mud the creature can’t find him. Dutch uses that to his advantage to fight back. The creature challenges Dutch to a hand to hand combat fight to the death, which Dutch accepts. After a violent battle Dutch manages to kill the Predator and is rescued by Anna and the rendezvous team.
Some of the most sought after Halloween costumes this year are sure to be characters from the sequel to the hit Transformers movie. The sequel, called Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, was eagerly awaited by fans and released in the summer of 2009. The production was almost delayed by the Writer’s Guild strike and the threat of an Actor’s Guild strike but in the end the producers and directors managed to pull the film together in time to meet the expectations of fans. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was one of the most anticipated movies of the summer along with movies like Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
All of the fans favorite characters are back in the sequel, and there are some new characters too. The sequel picks up two years after the original film. Sam Witwicky the lead male character, is heading off to college while his girlfriend Mikaela stays behind and works in a motorcycle shop. The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, have partnered with American and British forces to form NEST, a group that seeks out Decepticons who are hiding around the world. Joining Optimus Prime in this mission are Arcee, Jolt, Sideswipe and twins Skids and Mudflap. There is some opposition to NEST, and not everyone in the American government is convinced that NEST is a good idea. The Decepticon Demolisher is killed by Optimus Prime but predicts that the Fallen will rise up again to try and rule the world. In the meantime a Decepticon named Soundwave has discovered the location of Megatron’s corpse. Ravage, one of Soundwave’s henchmen, is sent to retrieve Megatron. Contructicons and a robot surgeon named Scalpel work tirelessly to repair Megatron and ultimately end up bringing him back to life. Megatron is sent to a Decepticon spacecraft hovering around Earth where he meets up with Starscream and the Fallen.
Meanwhile at college Sam Witwicky finds a piece of the shard of AllSpark, which gives the Transformers life. He begins to have a mental breakdown and sees Cybertronian text everywhere. Bumblebee and Mikaela try to help him but they are unable to. They do end up saving him from a Decepticon named Alice who tries to get the shard from him. The complicated storyline of the movie continues to follow the main plot of the conflict between Optimus Prime and Megatron but it also contains several different complicated subplots that don’t seem to have a lot of connection to the rest of the movie until the end, when it’s revealed that the Transformers and humans share a common history that has never been revealed. Optimus Prime declares that the robots and the humans need to put aside their differences and live together using their common history as a starting point.
Fans of the original Transformers movie will be happy to see all their favorite robots and humans are back in the sequel, and the new characters provide some interesting new storylines. Batman is a cultural icon. From its beginnings as a comic through many incarnations on TV and in movies the Batman character is a perennial favorite for Halloween. Some Batman costumes are based on the famous TV show from the 70s and are easy to identify as the TV Batman based on the costume style. But in the past few years there have been new, more modern Batman costumes created that were inspired by the Batman film character that has been shown in the recent Batman films. Even the Batman films of the late 1990s had a slightly campy feel to them and the costumes of characters like Batman, Batgirl, Mr. Freeze, The Joker, The Riddler, and Poison Ivy seemed like costumes straight out of a comic and the characters themselves were never fully developed.
But the recent Batman Begins and Batman: The Dark Knight films were much darker and more action oriented than the Batman movies in the past. In these films the Batman character is portrayed as much more conflicted emotionally. Batman’s dark side and the conflict he faces in being suave Bruce Wayne by day and Batman by night is more evident. In addition to a Batman with a dark side and a lot more depth moviegoers got to see several new villains like Ra’s Al Gul and The Scarecrow. The Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger, stole the show in The Dark Knight with his riveting portrayal of the infamous villain. The Joker as played by Heath Ledger remains an extremely popular Halloween costume.
The story of Batman is a story of loss. Bruce Wayne’s parents were murdered when he was just a small child, which left him a wealthy but lonely child looked after by a devoted servant and family friend. He develops an alter ego, Batman, who fights crime and fights to make the world a safer place. Throughout his many adventures Batman fights with the darkness inside himself and his own emotional conflicts. He comes across many enemies in Gotham City who have been portrayed on TV and in movies by many different well known stars. Some of those villains like The Riddler, Catwoman, The Penguin and Two Face have appeared in several movies being played by different stars.
Christopher Nolan, who directed both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, is in talks to direct a third installment of the Batman saga but he has not committed to doing another film just yet. Even though no third film has been confirmed there have been rumors of a third installment featuring stars like Angelina Jolie playing Catwoman and Johnny Depp playing The Riddler, although British Doctor Who star David Tennant, who also made an appearance in a Harry Potter film, has expressed interest in playing the Riddler if a third film does take place.
Regardless of who directs the next Batman film it’s certain that there will be one. Batman remains one of the most popular characters of all time and is beloved by fans of comics, TV and movies all over the world.
Kids love dinosaurs, and there are plenty of dinosaurs making appearances in Land of the Lost that be fun Halloween costumes. Originally Land of the Lost was scheduled to be released as one of the summer blockbuster movies in July of 2009 but once the release date of the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movie was pushed back to July of 2009 the movie studio producing Land of the Lost changed the release date to June of 2009. The movie studio didn’t want Land of the Lost to be competing with the Harry Potter film for an audience. Land of the Lost is an updated remake of a 1970’s television series that followed the adventures and mishaps of a scientist and his two children who were sent back in time to the Pre-Historic era when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The updated version is slightly different than the original and is written with many satirical references to the television series.
In the new film the main character Rick Marshall loses his job as an academic scientist because of his theories about time warps and time travels. He ends up teaching a science museum where he continues to work on an invention that he designed to trigger earthquakes which would in turn trigger a time warp. Instead of bringing along his children, as was the case in the original TV series, in the movie Rick Marshall ends up dragging with him the tour guide at a roadside attraction where he sets off his device named Will Stanton and a friend who had encouraged him to continue making the device named Holly Cantrell. After the device, a tachyon amplifier, is set off they end up trapped in a time warp. They also lose the tachyon amplifier as they are transported into a parallel world.
The parallel world contains dinosaurs like the T Rex, Allosaurs, and Velociraptors. It also contains cave men like the one that the three find to act as their guide, named Cha-ka. While they are running from a T Rex that they nicknamed Grumpy and looking for the tachyon amplifier so that they can return home they stumble into a evil plot to rule the world. The Zarn, played by Leonard Nimoy in the film, is thought to be the villain for most of the film but ultimately it is revealed that Enik is the actual villain who has been using an army of creatures called Sleestaks. Enik tries throughout the film to steal the tachyon amplifier for himself. In the end the trio of Rick Marshall, Will Stanton and Holly Cantrell find the tachyon amplifier, defeat both the T Rex and the evil Enik, and return to their time with proof of the existence of time warps which leads to the restoration of Rick Marshall’s career as a paleontologist.
