Kate Gosselin, a tabloid cutie, known and recognized for her show Jon & Kate Plus 8, and now the unfortunate divorce with her husband Jon. It was alleged that he was unfaithful, causing the image of the perfect American family into distortion thus pleasing the tabloids and paparazzi alike.
Kate is one of five children and was born to Kenton and Charlene Kreider.
She studied to become a nurse, and later worked in labor and delivery. Before the media melee, Kate and Jon, a simple couple, who married on June 12, 1999, welcomed the arrival of Cara Nicole and Madelyn Kate into the world on October 8, 2000. Jon and Kate utilized a fertility treatment to get pregnant as Kate was unable to conceive naturally due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. She then went on to give birth to sextuplets on May 10, 2004 after more fertility treatments.
Their reality TV career began with a feature on Home Delivery, a show that aired on NBC. Their home was renovated to make room for their large family. The couple and their children were also featured in a special on Discovery Heath called Surviving Sextuplets and Twins and a year later, a special called Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later. Production for Jon & Kate Plus 8 began in October 2006, and the first two seasons aired on Discovery Health Channel. The show eventually moved to TLC. In addition, to the TV show, Kate has written two books Multiple Blessings which was co-written with Jon, and Eight Little Faces released in April 2009.
Jon and Kate made it public on June 22, 2009 that they were separating in a 1-hour episode. The day in which the episode aired, Jon and Kate met with attorneys to finalize a divorce instead of the separation. The two commented that “the show must go on”, in interviews, yet TLC thought differently, and put the show on hold. Production difficulties have occurred because the couple no longer lives in the same house. Kate and the children remain in their home in Pennsylvania, and during Jon’s visits, Kate finds residency elsewhere.
Questions of infidelity have wavered around the broken marriage. Kate was accused of having an affair with her body guard, and endless unethical accusations about how Kate and Jon are “banking” on the show’s success. It is said that they have accepted many “freebies” from companies for endorsement, and Kate received a free tummy tuck after the birth. It is also said that she sells signed photos of the children during appearances.
Along with the media hype, the public, especially women, have shown great interest in Kate’s hairstyle, look and demeanor. This Halloween companies have made it easy for those wishing to dress-up like Kate without having their hair cut into various lengths and chop-like sections. A blond wig is available for purchase that mimics Kate’s infamous hairstyle. With all of the media coverage and wonder that exists around Kate Gosselin, it is sure to be a popular costume this year.

One of the most popular Halloween costumes, for kids or adults, is a firefighters costume. Firefighters, like policemen, are heroes that inspire people to honor them by dressing like them for Halloween. Firefighters costumes can be costumes that are just inspired by actual firefighters gear or they can be authentic reproductions of the everyday gear that firefighters use.
Your costume will get bonus points if you have a Dalmatian dog that accompanies you around on Halloween. If you don’t have an actual Dalmatian try carrying a stuffed Dalmatian dog with you on Halloween to complete the effect. Whether the costume you choose is an authentic reproduction or a variation of the traditional firefighters uniform there are some things that every firefighters costume needs to have. it doesn’t matter if the costume is for a child or an adult, all firefighters costumes should include:
Reflective tape – Reflective tape is worn in broad stripes around a traditional firefighters flame retardant coat. If you want to create an authentic looking firefighters coat a sand or khaki colored work jacket with broad stripes of reflective tape on the sleeves, around the chest and around the bottom of the coat will look authentic. If you’re choosing a costume that isn’t authentic get some reflective tape and use it on a shiny red or army green vinyl jacket to mimic the firefighters coat. Also put some reflective tape on the cuffs of the pants that you wear with the costume. To get authentic looking firefighters pants try using snowpants or workpants.
Firefighters helmet- Every firefighter needs a helmet. You can personalize your hat by adding sticker to it or painting on the hat your own company number or engine identification number. It’s also a good idea to put some reflective tape on the helmet.
Tools – Firefighters carry more than just hoses. Firefighters go into a fire with a whole tool kit that they can use to fight different kinds of fires and help rescue people. Since you don’t want to be carrying around real tools buy plastic firefighters tools or make cardboard ones. Most firefighters carry an axe, a shovel, a radio, an emergency signal button that has a GPS chip in it so that if they get into trouble they can be rescued, and an oxygen mask.
Boots- Study boots are a must for firefighters. Firefighter boots are usually expensive, so look for reproduction costume boots that will give you the look you want but will cost less.
If you want to use the traditional firefighters costume as an inspiration for a unique costume you can pick one piece of traditional firefighter equipment and use that as a base for your costume. For example, if you want to create a sexier firefighters costume you can use a vinyl firefighters jacket with reflective tape as a dress, and then add a firefighters hat and some sexy vinyl boots for a firefighters costume with a twist. Using firefighters accessories you can make your costume as unique as you are.
When you’re searching for great kids costumes you don’t have to look any further than Sesame Street. There are many different Sesame Street character costumes that are perfect for toddlers and small children. These costumes are great for kids because the kids will recognize the character, but parents can easily adapt the costume to meet their own child’s specific needs. Often toddler and infant Sesame Street costumes are made up of accessories worn with a onesie or plush footed pajama which is great when you’re taking kids out Trick or Treating and you want to make sure they stay warm and cozy. Parents can also dress up as some of the adult characters on Sesame Street like Bob or Mr.Hooper.
Sesame Street character costumes for adults are a great way to get in touch with your inner child on Halloween and have some fun too. Have a Sesame Street themed Halloween party and ask all your friends to dress as their favorite Sesame Street character if you want to have a Halloween party that is a lot of fun but also unique.
Some of the most popular Sesame Street character costumes are:
Elmo – The red furry Elmo is known for his high pitched voice and for being made into the infamous Tickle Me Elmo series of dolls. Love him or hate him there is no mistaking that red furry monster as the curious Elmo. If you’re going to dress in an Elmo Halloween costume practice talking in Elmo’s trademark high pitched Yoda -like speaking patterns to make the overall presentation more effective.
Bert and Ernie – Bert and Ernie make for a great couple’s costume. These two couldn’t be more opposite, but thrive on each other’s company and
couldn’t go without each other for too long. Bert and Ernie costumes are also great for twins or siblings.
Big Bird- Big Bird is probably the most popular Sesame Street character of all time. If you’re going to dress up as Big Bird for Halloween make sure that you get a costume that recreates his famous feathers. You might need to recruit a friend to help you fill out the costume since Big Bird has some pretty big shoes to fill but it will be worth it when everyone oohs and ahhs over your costume.
Abby Cadabby – Abby Cadabby is perfect for a little girl, or a grown up woman who wants to be a little girl again for a night. Abby Cadabby celebrates all things feminine with pretty feminine wings, lovely hair, and a pretty sparkly dress.
Cookie Monster – Cookie Monster might have changed his tune about eating cookies all the time but his furry blue face and love of cookies hasn’t changed over the years. Make sure to ask for cookies if you or your kids choose to dress up as Cookie Monster for Halloween!
Using accessories to complete your Sesame Street costume is a great way to polish off the look. There are Sesame Street theme candy carriers, light sticks, socks, ears, hair accessories and more that you can use to finish off a Sesame Street costume in style.
Halloween is a time for spooky fun these days, but in the past Halloween has a much more solemn meaning. The Ancient Celts, who lived in Britain and Ireland, celebrated a holiday they called Samhain on October 31st. Samhain was the Celt’s celebration of the ending of the year and the beginning of a new season. Because the Celts were a farming people their calendar and their holidays were based on the growing season, which is why their year ended when the harvesting of the crops was done in the fall. On Samhain they believed that the veil separating the living and the dead was so thin that the dead could come back through and interact with the living. Jack O Lanterns were originally carved gourds, not pumpkins, that the Celts would leave candles burning in all night to ward off unfriendly spirits. The Christian holiday of All Saints Day, celebrated November 1st, was created to counter Samhain as the Christians tried to eradicate Paganism and Pagan holidays in the Celtic World. The holiday of Halloween is a combination of the Celtic Samhain holiday and the Christian All Saints Day holiday.
The celebration of Halloween in the US didn’t start until the mid 1840s. Irish immigrants who came to the US to escape the Great Potato Famine in Ireland brought the practice of celebrating Halloween with them and it quickly became popular for everyone. Trick or Treating is also a combination of the celebration of All Saints Day and Samhain. In the Middle Ages poor people would dress up as much as they could and go door to door on All Saints Day begging for food. In return they would say prayers for the people who gave them food. On Samhain Celts would dress up in costumes to fool the evil spirits and trick them into thinking that the people were spirits too. These two traditions became blended in the US when the celebration of Halloween was just getting started and people began dressing up in costumes and going door to door begging for treats. Now Trick or Treating is such an integral part of the celebration of Halloween it’s impossible to think of having Halloween without Trick or Treating.
Many of the symbols that are commonly associated with Halloween have roots in the original Samhain celebration. Using corn stalks, hay, straw and pumpkins for decorations is to celebrate the end of a successful harvest.
The Celts would hang a skeleton in their windows on Samhain night as a sign of respect to their lost loved ones. Bonfires were lit, there was music and dancing and feasting all night long to give people a chance to have fun after long weeks of non stop work harvesting crops and preparing for a long winter. Today Halloween is one of the biggest holidays of the year, and is the unofficial start to the fall and winter holiday season consisting of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Some strict Christian sects forbid followers to participate in Halloween activities because Halloween descended from a Pagan holiday but these days Halloween has very little to do with religion and a lot to do with having fun, dressing up, and eating lots of delicious treats.

Ahoy Matey’s! Pirates are Perennial Halloween Favorites
Even before Captain Jack Sparrow came on the scene dressing up as a pirate for Halloween has been popular. Halloween is all about dressing up as someone else for a night, getting to be the kind of person you’d want to be if things like era, education, money and so on weren’t factors. It’s a night of fantasy. People fantasize about being pirates because of the romantic image that has evolved of pirates. Wearing ruffled shirts and long swash bucking coats, breeches, or denim sailor pants and buckled shoes and riding the open waves seems like a wonderful carefree existence to many people.
This romantic image of pirates has been around for centuries. Back in 1684 a book called The Buccaneers of America laid the groundwork for the image of pirates that still exists today. This best selling book portrayed pirates as daring rebels, fierce fighters, and underdogs. They were considered to be a type of Robin Hood of the sea, taking from the rich in order to ensure their own survival. The so-called Golden Age of pirates was between 1690 and the early 1700s and people today still read about the exploits of pirates who were active during that period with keen interest. Blackbeard, one of the most famous pirates of all time, has been the prototype for pirates in books, TV shows and movie throughout history. It could be argued that Geoffrey’s Rush Captain Barbossa character in the Pirates of the Caribbean films is based on Blackbeard too.
The wildly successful Pirates of the Caribbean films made modern audiences fall in love with the pirate aesthetic all over again and Captain Jack Sparrow costumes, William Turner costumes and Elizabeth Turner costumes are all popular Halloween costumes. The matted, snarled, dreadlocked wig of Captain Jack and his trademark kohl eyeliner ringed eyes have given the pirate costume a modern neo-tribal twist that people love. But there are other interpretations of pirate costumes as well. Skull and crossbone flags, tri-corner hats, white poet shirts, eye patches and bandanas are all popular pirate costume accessories. For women who want to dress as pirates an off the shoulder peasant blouse and peasant skirt or pantaloons and knee high boots are essential pirate wear, along with lots of gold coin jewelry. For real pirates gold and gold coin jewelry wasn’t just a fashion statement, it was a way for them to protect their stolen treasure. Wearing it was the only way they had to make sure that someone didn’t steal their stolen treasure from them.
Why are pirates so consistently popular? It’s because they represent the best parts of Halloween and the yearning that everyone has for freedom from society’s rules. On some level everyone dreams of cutting loose from society, doing exactly what they want and not caring at all what other people think and say. Pirates live by their own rules, rebel against society, and do exactly what makes them happy. That’s why pirates will always be popular pirate costumes.
The first Halloween film made its way into the cinema in 1978. With it, it brought tension, horror and lots of screams upon seeing Michael Myers ( Tony Moran) brutally killing the inhabitants of the quite town of Illinois. Michael, a demented psychopath molded in evil, had been locked away in a sanitarium for 15 years after killing his sister Judith Myers( Sandy Johnson). As his doctor, Sam Loomis( Donald Pleasence) and nurse Marion Chambers ( Nancy Stephens) frantically try to catch up with him, Michael goes about slashing his victims without mercy nor reason. One thing that directors somehow overlooked is Michael’s miraculous ability to drive. After being locked away at the age of six with no real contact with the real world, how did he suddenly know how to drive at the age of twenty one after stealing a car?
Michael was back at it again by his terrifying and equally gripping acts In Halloween II, in 1981. This time he came back for Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). The setting and atmosphere that the movie was shot made it a pacemaker for the other horror movies that tried to imitate it. With the right sounds, lights and each climax being timed appropriately while Michael was on his rampage, Halloween II did not loose its horrific grip since it was first launched in 1987. Michael’s doctor continued to be played by Donald Pleasence and his nurse by Nancy Stephens. The entire team made Halloween II a real shrilling sensation that so far has not been outmatched by any other horror film. Hunted by Sheriff Leigh Brackett( Charles Cyphers) and his doctor,Michael seem to always be a step ahead in his killing , leaving the two bewildered about his next strike.
With the success from the last two version of Halloween, Michael was resurrected to act in a series of Halloween films that managed to maintain the original gore and horror. With such splendid performance from Michael who was later played by different actors, whether in: Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers(1988), Halloween: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Halloween H20:20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection, the viewer will agree that the mastermind behind the development of each Halloween film is a real genius.
To ideally introduce the next Halloween Film the producers found unimaginable ways to keep alive the mission and character of Michael. Michael who was cursed by the Curse of Thorn, a curse which obligates the individual to kill his whole family in order to safeguard mankind, was made an unstoppable maniac in all Halloween films. The explanation behind the curse is a bit weak, as with the rampage that Michael had committed in earlier versions, there wont be one soul left for saving, even after wiping out his entire family.
With all the possible reasons to justify Michael’s survival outstretched, one has to wonder, what will be the unthinkable explanation that the directors will find to somehow resurrect Michael for another killing spree?
Halloween costumes of Michael Myers will be popular year after year.
